Networks as a tool to analyze social systems
Networks as a tool to analyze social systems
Advanced school, Lyon, June 11-15 2007

Scope

Graphs have become one of the favourite tools to quantify and model a variety of social systems (kinship networks, language evolution, disease spread...). The scope of this advanced school is to provide practical knowledge about how to use this mathematical tool to analyze social systems. This is accomplished by combining lectures on the mathematical tools (introduction to graph theory and introduction to different visualization/analysis software) and some applications (linguistics, anthropology, economics). Furthemore, an afternoon will be devoted to a philosophical discussion on complexity and the limits of social systems quantitative modelling.

Who

The school is intended for students/researchers in the social sciences willing to master the network tool and students/researchers in the modelling sciences willing to learn how to analyze social systems.
