New opening for a PhD position

The graduate school "Confinement-Controlled Chemistry" is looking for top-class graduate students with an interest in exploring the influence of geometrical confinement on reactions. Our graduate school offers a three-year-program, starting October 1st 2021 latest (preferably earlier), that combines cutting-edge research with a structured curriculum (in English) of lectures, colloquia and workshops in the fields of theory, spectroscopy, synthesis, and surface science. The program also comprises the opportunity for an integrated three-month research stay, preferably at the University of California.

A PhD position (E13 TV-L, 50-75 % for 3 years) is available in the field of electronic-structure theory of excited states. The successful candidate (f/m/d) will work in the group of Christopher Stein at the University Duisburg-Essen and collaborate with experimental groups within the graduate school. For further details please refer to the website of the graduate school (http://www.confinement-controlled-chemistry.de/) or the homepage of the AG Stein (www.uni-due.de/physik/stein).

We wish to promote careers of women in areas in which they have been underrepresented, and we would therefore like to encourage female candidates to send us their applications. Applications by suitable candidates with severe disabilities and other applicants with equal legal status are likewise most welcome.

Applications should include degree transcripts and certificates, proof of language skills in English, a detailed curriculum vita with information on awards, presentations, and publications, a short and meaningful motivation letter and one letter of recommendation.

The candidates must have a superior Master ́s degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, or a related engineering field and a profound interest and preferably a strong background in fundamental research.

Qualified candidates are asked to submit their application electronically (as a single pdf file) via email to christopher.stein@uni-due.de . Please reference the position in your application as "GRK-Stein".

Deadline: 18.07.2021
