Summary : We reconstructed the history of the emergence of a scientific idea, wavelets, based on publications by selected actors. Homogeneous
communities of scholars are detected on consecutive time windows, and linked by a given measure of similarity. An alluvial-like diagram is employed to show the resulting temporal structures. Three distinct phases stand out and are clearly discernable in the visualization.
