Summary: At all scales, natural systems are optimized and sophisticated, they resist and adapt to perturbations such as environmental changes, and rarely failed.

After reviewing some examples, we will focus on proteins, a nanometer size natural object playing many critical roles in living organisms.  The mechanisms underlying robustness and adaptabilty of proteins will be explored as well as the mechanisms of propagation of changes from atoms (local) to the entire protein (global). Graph and tiling theories are used to model proteins.
